MMA Business Leadership Award (Year of Inception: 1969)

Sri. A. Sivasailam, Sri. J.R.D. Tata, Sri. H.V.R. Iyengar and Sri. P. Unnikrishnan

The Madras Management Association confers the MMA Business Leadership Award on an outstanding Indian business leader, once every two years, since 1969. This Award was instituted in 1969 by Mr A Sivasailam, Chairman, Amalgamations Group in memory of his father the late S Anantharamakrishnan, founder of the Amalgamations Group and past president of Madras Management Association. The award is presented once in two years to an Indian business leader, adjudged as outstanding by a panel of eminent jurors forming the selection committee. The awardee also delivers the Anantharamakrishnan Memorial Lecture at the award function. The award is in the form of a silver trophy.

The recipients of the award includes giants like the late Dr J R D Tata, Mr Arvind Mafatlal, Dr Bharat Ram, Mr S L Kirloskar, Mr Aditya Vikram Birla, and Dr C Rangarajan.

MMA has always promoted sound management knowledge, experience and ideas in various disciplines. With a wish to award recognition every year to excellence in managerial thinking, action and demonstrable results to companies and institutions who are members and having their corporate or registered office in Tamilnadu and Pondicherry MMA instituted this Award – “MMA Award for Managerial Excellence” in the year 2002. It is awarded in the following four categories:

Category A – Manufacturing Sector
Category B – Services Sector
Category C - SMEs Sector
Category D – Educational Institutions

The MAME 2008 Awards were presented to the following under the different categories:

  • Manufacturing Sector - TAFE Power Source 
  • Services Sector - Pyramid Saimira Theatre Ltd 
  • SMEs Sector - Autoprint Machinery Mfrs Pvt Ltd 
  • Educational Institutions - Hindustan University 

The Awardees made a presentation on their managerial process of excellence at a seminar on “Managerial Excellence” preceding the MMA Annual General Meeting on 27th June 2008 at Hotel Le Royal Meridien, Chennai. The Awards were given away by Mr Lakshmi Narayanan Vice Chairman, Cognizant and Mr Kewal Handa President, All India Management Association & Managing Director, Pfizer Ltd

7TH MMA Outstanding Woman Manager Of The Year Award (Year of Inception: 2002)

The Women Managers’ Forum (WMF) of Madras Management Association (MMA) focuses on issues of special interest to women executives and entrepreneurs that can help them improve their professional excellence. This Forum has been successfully organising programmes addressing women managers’ related issues.
The participants were judged by a panel of eminent management professionals comprising of Ms Hemalatha Rajan, Director, Ma Foi Management Consultants, Ms Geetha Premkumar, Director, Vector Indojanix P Ltd and Prof V Chandrasekhar, Head-CCE, MMA.

Ms Srividya Bharathi, Asst.Vice President, ABN Amro Central Enterprise Services Pvt Ltd walked away with the “Outstanding Woman Manager of the Year 2007” award which included a cash prize of Rs.10,000/-, a trophy and a Certificate which were presented to her by the Chief Guest Ms R Radikaa Sarathkumar, Chairperson, RADAAN Mediaworks (I) Ltd at the Valedictory Session of the Women Managers’ Convention held on 8 March 2008 at Taj Coromandel, Chennai.

12TH MMA Competition For Tomorrow's Managers
Theme: “INDIA.INC.MNC: GLOBAL CHALLENGES FOR EMERGENT INDIA”

MMA has been organizing the MMA Competition for Tomorrow’s Managers annually since 1996. This year’s Competition was the 12th in our effort to involve young managers in the management cause. Tlletin, Business Mandate in an attractive four-color format reaching all the members. It has a readership of approximately 5,000. It highlights events in the MMA calendar and carries thought-provoking articles. MMA also publishes useful booklets on management subjects at low cost from time to time. The "Proceeding of the MMA Annual Convention" is published every year.
