Five decades ago, when the management education in this country was in a nascent stage, a group of outstanding visionaries saw the necessity to inculcate and propagate modern management concepts and practices towards optimizing operational efficiency in Indian industries. There were no management schools then as they are today.  Management, as a formal scholastic pursuit, was in its infancy; that came from nine truly visionary men, who established the Madras Institute of Management in the year 1956, which subsequently became the Madras Management Association.

These wise men with farsighted vision knew the importance of carrying the message of management movement across the length and breadth in this country.  This pioneering effort of MMA has been acknowledged and appreciated by the entire industrial fraternity in India. 

Over the years, MMA has been conducting seminars, workshops, lectures, quizzes, debates and conventions on various aspects of management relevant to the times in which they were conducted.  MMA’s vision was to become a fountainhead of world-class management excellence in India.  To a large extent, this vision has been realized.  

The Vision of MMA is “To be the Fountainhead of World class Management Excellence in India”.

The prime objective is to promote management education, training, thought and development. MMA strives to develop and nurture management expertise, combining Indian ethos with International Management thoughts and practices. 

Madras Management Association (MMA) is a premier management association based in Chennai under the aegis of All India Management Association (AIMA) and has been in existence since 1956. MMA was conferred the "National Excellence Award" for the year 2007-08 in recognition of MMA continuously winning "AIMA Best LMA Award" in Category 1 from 2001 to 2006 and also for the continued excellent all round activities in propagating professional management in this part of the country. 

MMA is serving the cause of managerial excellence for over five decades. It has over 4000 corporate houses, industries, professionals, academics and executives on its rolls as members. MMA annually organizes more than 200 executive development activities, including seminars for top management with a total participation of sixteen thousand executives and entrepreneurs.

Apart from corporate leaders, MMA has, in its Managing Committee, the Vice Chancellors of Madras University & Anna University, the Directors of IIT Madras and IFMR and the Chief Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, as ex – officio members.

MMA is also an ISO 9001 Certified Association.
