BACKGROUND
In order to assist the small and medium entrepreneurs upgrade their business management knowledge and skills, particularly in the increasingly competitive and liberalised economic scenario, Madras Management Association started the Entrepreneurship Development Project in 1989. The Konrad Adenauer Foundation agreed to provide financial assistance in implementing this project and signed a formal contract with the Madras Management Association on 22 September 1989. Since then the contract had been renewed every year.
During the 11 years of implementation of the project, enormous changes have come into the national as well as international business scene. Over the years, there had been a constant endeavour to update both the form and content of the project in tune with the needs of the entrepreneurial class. Since the inception of the Project a total of 1026 training activities for 1645 training days, with 43,985 persons have been organised up to December 31, 2000.
OBJECTIVE
The basic objective of the project continued to be that of enabling the small and medium enterprises develop their capabilities, to successfully conduct the business and grow competitive in the market place. The project aims at providing them-
AREA OF COVERAGE
During the last 11 years of operation, training activities have been focused in the city of Chennai and the home state of Tamil Nadu, as also in a few towns and cities of the Southern States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. Chennai and Tamil Nadu were the main areas of activity. During the year 2000, the activity was mostly within Chennai, which also drew participants from cities like Tuticorin, Tirupur and Trichy.

Our offices abroad are in charge of more than 200 projects in more than 120 countries. The foundation’s headquarters are situated in Sankt Augustin near Bonn and in Berlin. There, an additional conference center, namely the Academy, was opened in 1998.
